If you are like most of us in Minneapolis, you probably give your home a deep clean in the spring, but you should also show it some love at the beginning of fall. Prepping the inside of your home is always a good idea! Here’s where to start:
I needed this one so bad! With 4 kids, my pantry literally looked like a bomb went off inside it. It was so disorganized it overwhelmed me and I didn’t even know where to start! Here is what worked for me.
I started at the top and worked my way down, removing all the cans and boxes from the shelves and piled everything on my kitchen table. Then I vacuumed away any lingering dust or crumbs (absolutely still mind blowing to me how many crumbs were on the ground …do these kids just sit and snack while in the pantry (???)!). I’m sure this goes without saying but be sure to inspect each item before putting it back in its place, tossing anything that has expired or past its prime.
You already know to put fresh batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors (doing it on the days you change the clocks for Daylight Saving Time is an easy way to remember). But you also need to clean your units, since dust that accumulates can cause them to underperform, or even ‘overperform’ by making them go off for what will appear to you is for no reason. Using your vacuum cleaner’s soft brush attachment, clean in and around the detectors’ openings. If any are more than 10 years old, replace them. I have an older blog that shares my personal story on how I discovered ‘dusting’ your smoke detectors is a REAL thing, take it from me, don’t skip this easy task!
When you turn back your clocks, turn your mattress over, too. If you can’t flip it because it has a pillow-top, rotate it 180 degrees to prevent body impressions form causing certain spots to slump. Sprinkle the mattress with baking soda to neutralize odors, and then vacuum it up.
Get a jump on holiday party season by giving your carpeting a good scrub. We recommend getting a professional cleaning once a year. 24Restore does do residential and commercial carpet cleaning, we use state of the art equipment and as always will work with your schedule.
You think your couch is clean until you plop on it, and a haze of dust appears around you. Give sofas and chairs a good vacuuming, make sure to hit both sides of the cushions, the back, sides, arms, and even the platform underneath the cushions.
